Over the course of your 3-year apprenticeship, you will get to know the many and varied tasks of an international, future-oriented company. You will spend time in a variety of departments (these may vary depending on which company you do your apprenticeship in), such as controlling, cost accounting, project management, sales, marketing, scheduling, purchasing, accounts, contract administration and HR. You will be given a comprehensive and practical introduction to the work of each department – preparing you in depth for your future tasks. This and the intensive support provided by your trainers create the perfect environment for you to combine the theory you learn at your vocational college with your practical workplace tasks.
To be able to do an apprenticeship to become an office management assistant, you must either have a 'Fachhochschulreife' [school leaving certificate (age 18)] or a 'Realschulabschluss' [school leaving certificate (age 16)] with good grades in German, Maths, English and preferably Economics. You have a confident and friendly manner, are reliable and communicative and can work on your own. It is certainly an advantage if you already have some work experience.
Working as an office management assistant, you can expect to be given a wide variety of tasks in a future-oriented company. Your strong organisational skills make you an invaluable member of our departmental or project teams, no matter which area of our business you may work in. What's more, you benefit from the many different further training opportunities offered by the REMONDIS Group. You can consult with the company and choose which direction you wish to go in to best reflect your skills and interests.
I've already got to work in several different companies within the REMONDIS, BUCHEN and XERVON Groups. I've found the visits to our customers particularly interesting which is why I think sales is one of the most fascinating departments. As I haven't been at REMONDIS that long yet, I've still got to work in a number of other departments before my apprenticeship finishes. I hadn't really worked in an office environment before and so I decided to do the apprenticeship at XERVON to set myself a new challenge. There's a danger of being just one of a crowd in a company this large so you do need to be able to assert yourself and enjoy working with lots of different people. However, having said that, I would certainly recommend that people do an apprenticeship in a big company as there are better chances of being taken on when you've qualified.
