An apprenticeship to become a painter/coating specialist for buildings and corrosion protection teaches you how to protect and renovate buildings, building sections and plants made of concrete, steel or metal using a variety of paint and coating systems. Your job also involves preparing the different types of surface so they can be coated. You select suitable measures to remove surface damage and to make the surface even more resistant in the future. There is no other profession that unites creativity and craftsmanship skills quite like this one.
During this 3-year apprenticeship you will gain extensive know-how about all fields relevant to your course. This includes, for example, evaluating surfaces and their risk of being damaged as well as learning about repair, protection and maintenance techniques. What's more, you'll become an expert in protecting surfaces against corrosion and fire. To be able to do this, you will be taught all the theory needed which you can then put straight into practice in your day-to-day work. In addition, you get to learn other practical skills (such as erecting scaffolding and operating machines) and about health and safety regulations so that you can carry out your wide range of tasks.
Two important qualifications or skills for doing an apprenticeship to become a painter and coating specialist for buildings and corrosion protection are a 'Hauptschulabschluss' [school leaving certificate (age 16)] and the ability to work with great care and attention. A good understanding of Maths certainly makes it easier for you to plan how much material you need, to estimate surface areas and to determine mixing ratios. We would prefer you to have some experience of working in a craftsmanship or technology business.
Once you have successfully completed your apprenticeship, there is a very good chance that you will be taken on by this international company. What's more, you will also be able to make the most of our extensive further training programme and gather experience of managing others, for example as foreman, or continue your education to gain your master qualifications.
I decided to do an apprenticeship at REMONDIS as I believed the chances of being taken on after the course must be good at such a large company. Moreover, there is a very friendly atmosphere at REMONDIS and a good relationship between the bosses and their employees. I got to know all the different areas involving painting and corrosion protection and have learned a great deal. People looking to apply for an apprenticeship should do the background checks and find out exactly what the different courses offer. It's much easier to learn all the details if you choose a profession you enjoy and it makes you more ambitious as well.
