Maintenance work with some unusual facets

XERVON supports its customers operating in the stone industry in all relevant fields of business

Whether it be for glass, plastic or building materials: limestone and dolomite are needed to make a whole host of everyday products. An extensive infrastructure is required to produce these two minerals, both from point of view of space and machinery. As there is a wide variety of individual process steps, there is also a wide range of equipment – from crushers, to washing and screening machinery, all the way through to calcining kilns. And then there are the supply networks and the enclosed, kilometre-long conveyor belts used to transport the material.

XERVON Industrial Plant Services has been responsible for maintaining the machinery and facilities at Europe’s largest lime plant and at the two neighbouring quarries since the end of 2016. They deliver all servicing, piping and steelwork tasks. Their remit involves carrying out everyday services as well as taking part in special building projects or providing services during turnarounds. A regular team of XERVON operatives work at the site every day – and even at the weekend as any services that may disrupt the production processes during the week are performed on Saturdays and Sundays.

XERVON Industrial Plant Services has been responsible for maintaining the machinery and facilities at Europe’s largest lime plant and at the two neighbouring quarries since the end of 2016.

Besides maintaining the gas and air pipelines, the company’s piping specialists primarily focus on the pipes used to manage the flow of water – a key part of the infrastructure in this particular industry. Pipes with a diameter of up to 350mm, for example, transport surface water from the quarries to the various pieces of processing machinery. The water is extracted from the quarries via booster stations built at various levels at the base of the quarries. XERVON is currently building such a booster station that not only comprises extremely powerful pumps but also two tanks plus all distributor equipment and pipe connections. A complex project that must not only take the long distance needed to transport the water into account but also the height from top to bottom which is gradually increasing as more and more stone is removed from the quarry.

Special expertise is required to provide maintenance services for quarry businesses as well as equipment suitable for their rough terrain.

When it comes to providing services for the stone industry, XERVON is able to offer its core areas of expertise as well as a wealth of specialist industry knowledge. The equipment it deploys has also been adapted to meet the requirements of the sector. This is particularly true for its fleet as the team needs special off-road vehicles to cope with the quarries’ rough terrain. As far as this lime plant is concerned, XERVON is a partner whose services fit in perfectly with their production processes. And not just at this site. It also carries out special projects at four other quarries operated by their customer.
