Our commitment to the future
For us, responsibility means taking economic, environmental and social aspects into account in our day-to-day operations. We view sustainability not merely as a matter of environmental and climate protection, but also as a responsibility for the safety and development of our staff, as well as for the quality of our services. The following examples illustrate the key areas of focus within our business activities.
The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are 17 goals for sustainable development adopted by the United Nations as part of the 2030 Agenda. As an internationally recognised framework, they help to systematically organise environmental, social and economic issues.
Based on our business activities, we have identified five SDGs to which we believe we have a particular connection. Within these SDGs, we focus on the targets to which we can contribute through our activities. This classification reflects our own assessment and does not constitute certification or endorsement by the United Nations.
SDG 3: Good health and well-being
Target 3.9: Reduce illness and death from hazardous chemicals and pollution
Example: Going beyond legal requirements, we rely on training and awareness-raising measures when handling chemicals and hazardous substances, for example to prevent the spread of contamination. Furthermore, BUCHEN UmweltService, for example, supports customers in the professional remediation of buildings and facilities regarding hazardous substances such as asbestos, PCBs or heavy metals. SDG 4: Quality education
Target 4.4: Increase the number of people with relevant skills for financial success
Example: Through our internal training and development program and the education of our own skilled professionals, we foster technical, methodological and interpersonal competencies while offering employees and apprentices clear development and career opportunities. SDG 8: Decent work and economic growth
Target 8.8: Protecting labour rights and promote safe working environments
Example: At many sites, we operate an occupational health and safety management system certified to ISO 45001; comparable occupational health and safety systems are in place at other sites. In this way, we promote safe working environments across the Group. (own assessment, not confirmed by the UN)
SDG 9: Industry, innovation and infrastructure
Target 9.4: Upgrade all industries and infrastructure for sustainability
Example: Through our services, such as industrial insulation, industrial cleaning and plant maintenance, we can help to improve the energy and resource efficiency of our customers’ plants compared to a state where they are not maintained. (our own assessment, not confirmed by the UN)
SDG 13: Climate action
Target 13.2: Integrate climate change measures into policies and planning
Example: We have incorporated the careful management of natural resources and the consideration of the opportunities and risks posed by climate change as a guiding principle in our corporate policy. We are currently putting this principle into practice as part of our preparations for the CSRD reporting requirements from 2028 onwards (our own assessment, not confirmed by the UN)
Awarded the EcoVadis Bronze Medal
Our sustainability management system has been awarded the EcoVadis Bronze Medal (Top 35% of companies assessed during the rating period) as part of the EcoVadis Sustainability Rating.
Since 2015, our group has regularly participated in this ESG and sustainability rating. The assessment covers the categories of Environment, Ethics, Labour & Human Rights, and Sustainable Procurement, and is based, among others, on internationally recognized standards such as the UN Global Compact, ISO 26000, and the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI).
The rating evaluates the quality and maturity of our sustainability management system, as well as the related processes, policies and measures we have implemented. It does not constitute a certification of products, services or individual sites.
