For several years now, a major project has been underway at the Cologne-Merkenich Chemical Park that requires 20 different services in eight different areas: the renovation of large sections of the network of pipe bridges. Managed by XERVON Instandhaltung, the site's maintenance service provider, the kilometre-long network is being overhauled section by section. A good three quarters of the total project volume has now been completed. From today's perspective, the project can be finished by the end of the year: On schedule, which is not a matter of course given the complexity of the project.
Since the pipe bridges are indispensable infrastructure for the chemical park, the network is renewed during ongoing operations. In addition, high safety standards are essential because - as is usual with older pipe bridges - the ageing corrosion protection of the installations is now considered to contain harmful substances. Each section of the network that is due for repair must therefore first be completely enclosed over a lengths of up to 100 metres and equipped with the necessary safety devices. Afterwards, the concrete rehabilitation work begins, which is repeated for each section of the project.
