Scaffolding in the heart of Stockholm

XERVON Sweden is working on two historic buildings in the Swedish capital: the Royal Palace and the Stockholm Opera House

No building represents Swedish identity more strongly than the Royal Palace: a symbol of Sweden's vibrant and accessible monarchy. Built between 1697 and 1770, the "working palace" is now one of the prime examples of Baroque power architecture. Another special feature is that the palace is open to the public – and will remain so throughout the decades of renovation work. The same applies to the listed Stockholm Opera House. Two sensitive scaffolding projects for XERVON Sweden.

The Royal Palace impresses with its imposing dimensions: the façade alone measures 230 metres. Behind it lie over 600 rooms, courtyards and corridors.

Scaffolding in the public eye

Working on two of Sweden's most important buildings is a source of pride. But what makes these construction sites special is the combination of location, safety requirements and public visibility: they are located in the heart of the government district, in the cultural heart of the city – and in the public eye. A strict access concept and approval by the Swedish Security Service (SÄPO) for personnel and deliveries are therefore just as necessary as scaffolding that is appropriate for historic buildings.

Proven scaffolding for history

XERVON Sweden relies on modular Layher scaffolding – proven, versatile and ideal for complex historical facades. This is because restorers must be able to work precisely even in hard-to-reach areas such as balustrades, medallions or sculptures. The scaffolding structure used can be fitted precisely around windows, decorations and balconies – without affecting the historical building fabric.

We are proud to be involved in projects that shape the cultural heart of the country.

Renovation until 2050

The palace façade has been undergoing renovation since 2011, and XERVON Sweden has been part of the project for four years. Completion: probably 2050 – piece by piece, phase by phase. Work is also underway at the Royal Opera House: the renovation of the façade is scheduled for completion by the end of 2026, followed by expansion and modernisation.

Reliability, quality and discretion – these values are just as important here as steel and screw connections.

What makes such projects possible, apart from experience, knowledge and technology, is the relationship of trust that has grown over the years between the client, owner and service provider. Because anyone who builds on Swedish history needs more than height: they need attitude.
